Have you ever envied a man's wardrobe? It seems they need so very little in comparison to that which a woman needs. I mean, it seems that all a man needs is a few pairs of pants, a couple of white shirts, a couple more coloured shirts, a suit, some tee shirts a pair or two of jeans, some socks, a couple of belts, under daks, some pullovers or cardigans and a couple pairs of shoes, right? Then you have basically a well-dressed man, don't we? Not in today's world we don't!
Today a man needs his wardrobe to cover much more refined items of clothing if he is an office worker or if he likes to go out occasionally. Today a suit and a tie, leather shoes with matching belt, and socks matching his pants for more formal occasions and for the less formal he also needs a variety of shirts, tee shirts, runners or casual shoes, and a much broader range of men's shirts.
An office working man today needs shirts for meetings, in-office and out-of-office, luncheons and after hours meetings. And if he has no meetings scheduled he will need a loosely fitting shirt for comfortable wearing all day at the office. This need not be so 'trendy' but it does need to be very comfortable.
First appearances count when meeting new people, so if he has meetings scheduled to meet new business people then he will need to make a good first-impression simply because there is no chance to do that again. Sure, all going well they will do business again often but a bad first impression is not easy to overcome. Sloppily dressed people do not inspire anyone to work with them or even to be seen with them.
Then if he is an active man on weekends he may need good jeans and polo tee shirts along with a leather or suede coat. He will need what we call a jumper in Australia but I believe they are better known in the US as a pullover.
Pullovers or jumpers need shirts with collars that can be pulled down over the edge of the jumper or if it's a tee shirt to be totally covered by the pullover or jumper. It looks untidy to see a collar half tucked in and with the other side covering the collar of a jumper.
So this means having a variety of shirts that can be worn anywhere, at any time and with anything. Just be sure to wear colours that don't clash, so I guess that means that a man now needs many more shirts for any occasion.
